That's my biggest project right now and my, oh, my how it consumes the brain! Survival of Ukocono is a play that I had published a few years ago with Brooklyn Publishers. It's a youth play and has gotten some pretty good feedback.
It's a comedy with a global conservation message - a rainforest comedy, if you will (tee hee). How do you make global conservation funny? Well, I've been told again and again that I'm a 'quirky' writer....somehow I manage.
Anyway - I'm flipping Survival of Ukocono into a screenplay....I think it would make a wonderful animated movie. So, here's the challenge: I want to have it completed in time to submit the script to the AUSTIN SCREENPLAY COMPETITION, deadline May 15th. So, I'm gonna put one of those crazy tracker bars at the top of the blog- please root for me, cheer me on! I'll even put in a few short cuttings of the script from time to time for you to get a peek.
I do have high hopes for this script. Have YOU ever had high hopes for a piece of writing you were working on? Did you feel excited, anxious, discouraged? I'd like to hear from YOU! Comments below, thanks ya'll!
(DRAMA TEACHER NOTE: If you happen to be a Drama (Theatre/Theater) teacher for youth and would like to read the actual stageplay - it's available at Brooklyn Publishers where you can order the script, or even read a preview section. I also have other youth plays listed there specific to forensic competitions too, so check them out HERE!)

Does one say "Break a Leg" or is that only for the actors? Good luck to you!
Hey! I'm a high school theatre teacher/director. Glad to have found you via Texas Blogging gals! Come and follow me :)
@TufaGirl: Yes, we do say Break a Leg...and also, my fave, Good Show!
@MegO: YAY! Glad you stopped by, I will CERTAINLY drop by yours and follow you too! BTW - I love to write shows for schools to premiere. And I don't charge royalty for that because it gives me a performance to judge the show by. You could PREMIERE something! Let me know if you ever want fresh script! Playwright Chick
I'm encouraged by your success and excitement for the screenplay. How fun to see your show done in animation. I hope it wins!!! I'm still working on my coffee shop drama - a read-through is scheduled. Wish you were here for it!
Sounds like all's well with you, busy lady!
@Mary - you are so sweet! I wish I lived close enough to attend your read-thru!!! Best of luck for a great critique!
